Våken
Privacy Policy
Last updated 25 September 2026
Våken is a free menu bar app for Mac made by FringeNode (Marius Trolsrud Olsen, Norway). This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and what your rights are. The short version: Våken does not track you, and we only get your email if you choose to give it to us.
What Våken collects
Your email
On first launch Våken asks for your email. This is optional — you can click “Skip”. If you enter it, we receive:
- your email address
- whether you ticked the newsletter box, the exact consent text you saw, and when
- the app version, your preferred language, and a random installation ID (used only to avoid duplicates)
Update checks
A few times a day Våken downloads a small file from fringenode.no to see if a new version or message from FringeNode is available. No personal data is sent. As with any website, our hosting provider may briefly log technical data such as your IP address to operate and protect the service.
What Våken never collects
No analytics, no usage tracking, no advertising IDs, and no access to your files. Your settings stay on your Mac.
Why we use it
- Newsletter — only if you ticked the box and confirmed it via the link we email you (double opt-in). Legal basis: your consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time via the unsubscribe link in every email or by contacting us.
- Keeping you posted about Våken — a welcome email with install help, and occasional important news about the app you registered for. Legal basis: our legitimate interest (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)). You can opt out at any time.
Storage and sharing
Registrations are stored securely with our hosting provider, Vercel, and email notifications are sent through Resend. We never sell your data or share it with anyone for their own marketing. We keep your email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Email post@fringenode.no and we'll respond within 30 days. If you believe we handle your data unlawfully, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).
